Brooke
began her acting career at the age of 10, starring in her elementary
school Christmas pageant, Wise Guys and Starry Skies. Other childhood
credits include a front porch puppet show (Concieved, written, directed
by and starring Brooke Bailey) and an elaborately choreographed dance
routine to Gloria Estevan’s “Conga.”In high school,
she founded the Santee Chapter of the international Thespian Society
and held weekly midnight meetings at the local Denny’s.
Brooke attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington earning a
Bachelor’s degree in theatre performance and administration.
She performed in such shows as Laundry and Bourbon, Arsenic and Old
Lace, Cotton Patch Gospel, and The Good Woman of Szechwan.
During her junior year she co-wrote and acted in an original production
entitled The body Image Show and has continued to be involved with
the development and production of this work.
After graduating, Brooke, determined to be anything but a starving
artist, managed to find employment that included such adventures as
living in a teepee, eating chocolate chip cookies, begging for donations,
exploring abandoned WWII bunkers, building fires, breeding orchids,
and viewing Impressionistic art.
Taking a job as a theatre teacher for youth, Brooke finally found
what felt like a calling and before long she was ready to recommit
herself to a life in the performing arts. On the very same day that
she made her final payment on her undergraduate loans, she signed
the paperwork for her graduate school loans. While attending New York
University she completed a Master’s degree in educational theatre,
specializing in working with underprivileged youth and creating original
performances.
Brook is currently an adjunct theatre instructor at Whitworth College
where she also directs an educational touring show and a staged reading
series. Last year she coordinated a Theatre for Social Justice Institute
focusing on socio-economic discrimination in Spokane. .
